Il film inizia con un
monologo di una vecchia leggenda messicana. La leggenda racconta la storia del Diavolo che prima di reclamare l'anima
dei dannati, li raduna in un posto e li tortura fino alla morte. 

Durante una qualsiasi giornata lavorativa,
un uomo si suicida buttandosi da un palazzo di piani imprecisati. Il Detective Bowden (Chris Messina), durante lo
svolgimento del caso si ritrova ad indagare su cinque 

persone stranamente bloccate in un ascensore, verso il
22 piano, dove una di loro pare essere un violento assassino. La prima vittima è Vince McCormick (Geoffrey Arend), un
venditore di materassi che ha mandato 

in rovina molte persone, muore con un pezzo di specchio conficcato
nella giugulare. Durante il tentativo di salvataggio, il tecnico dell'azienda muore cadendo nella tromba dell'ascensore.
Gli omicidi cominciano 

a essere inspiegabili..........

Storyline

In Philadelphia,
Detective Bowden is still grieving for his wife and son, killed in a hit-and-run five years ago. When someone jumps from
a skyscraper onto a truck, Bowden is sent to investigate. Meanwhile, 

five strangers are trapped in an
elevator in the building where the jumper committed suicide. The communication radio in the elevator is broken but the
guards, Lustig and Ramirez, observe the individuals via 

CCTV as events unfold. Tensions run high among those
trapped, so Lustig calls the police and Detective Bowden assumes the case. Without being able to contact the
individuals, he tries to work out who they are, 

but he can only account for four of them. Time is running
out for the occupants of the elevator, as Bowden realizes he has to get them out quickly.   [/SIZE]
